Communications
- I support the free-market ownership of airwave frequencies. I support reserving a portion of the unused wireless spectrum for use by emergency officials including police and firefighters.
- I strongly encourage the voluntary use of rating guidelines for television programming that will enable viewers to opt-in (or out) of potentially offensive content as well as providing parental controls.
- I support the deregulation of the telecommunications industry.
- I oppose government ownership or subsidy of, or funding for, any domestic communications organization. With the wide selection of private sector alternatives now available, it is not necessary to unconstitutionally fund these organizations with taxpayer dollars.
- I oppose imposing the 'Fairness Doctrine' upon radio talk shows. Since the failure of the left-leaning talk-radio network, Air America, activists have been seeking to silence conservatives or commandeer airtime to convey their own agendas. Note that these same supporters have not proposed applying this same standard to television which has been statistically shown to favor the left in its reporting of the news.
- I oppose censorship of talk radio networks in the form of forcing stations to delivery messages contrary to their values. I'm in favor of allowing the free-market to drive fairness; advertisers and listeners will punish those who abuse their platform in the pocketbook forcing them to comply with the will of the people or perish.
- I oppose the mandate for a nationwide 2-1-1 phone line that would route calls to one of 1,500,000 non-profit human services organizations. This is not a good use of taxpayer funds, not a constitutional power of Congress, and could easily be accomplished with a phone book.
- I oppose initiatives by the Federal Communications Commission to regulate media ownership.
- I recognize the need to monitor international and domestic calls for the purposes of national security; however, I oppose unconstitutional or warrantless wiretaps.
