Current problems in such areas as energy, pollution, health care delivery, decaying cities, and poverty are not solved, but are primarily caused, by government. The welfare state, supposedly designed to aid the poor, is in reality a growing and parasitic burden on all productive people, and injures, rather than benefits, the poor themselves.

• I favor individual, family and community efforts to relieve the burdens of those who have suffered misfortune and innocent injury. Every individual has the right to the fruits of their own labor and the responsibility to support themselves and their families. The only true charity is found in the voluntary efforts of every compassionate person, independent of any government entitlements, dictates, or programs.
• I support a responsible transition to private financial alternatives, rather than maintenance or expansion of compulsory government retirement, disability, and health programs.
